Flying with Children (or in my case, a Child)

My daughter is 6 years old and I have never taken her on a flight but she has made it abundantly clear that she wants to go to China and I know that with Travelstart , I will be able to find a cheap, reliable and safe way to get there

Now you may be asking yourself, how can she write a blogpost about flying with children when she has just admitted, in her first line, that she has never flown with her child?

Well come closer and let me tell you how.

Yes, flying and “car travelling” with a child is different but at the essence and core of it, travelling is just that – travelling. Whether it’s to the mall 45 minutes away or to Langebaan 2 hours away.

Kids need incentive and parents need to keep their sanity intact.

Now, if you’re flying with your child, depending on the age of your child; you might need to incentivise your fellow passengers and lucky for me by the time I travel with Zineah she will be 8 years old and less of a disturbance to other passengers #sorrynotsorry

The longest trip I’ve made with my daughter was in a car, to Durban – she was 4 years old (so 2 years ago) and it was not as bad as I thought it would be but there were alot of times when I thought “What the hell have I gotten myself into?”. We obviously made it to Durban in one piece but once we got there, I think all that pent up energy in the car ride just burst and she was a ball of tantrums and erratic outbursts; queue the car ride home.

Second longest trip was to Knysna, so 5 hours and she was 5 years old and a lot more restless this time around although I did everything I could to provide her “distractions”.

Third longest trip was and always will be Langebaan – not that bad and we normally end up having a sing-a-long session all the way there and back and because she is a bit older it does make it easier for me to “incentivise” her to remain busy while I concentrate on the road.

If you are planning to travel with your kids, no matter their age ; always keep in mind fellow passengers and prepare your kids beforehand so that when the plane takes off and their ears pop, they are less scared and know that mom & dad are right there, as promised, to protect them and ensure they get to the other side in one piece.

For cheap cost effective flights, head on over to Travelstart to get a quote and get your kids onto that plane to experience their next adventure!
