What is your blog about?

My journey as a young working mom.

Connecting with my readers and reading their stories.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?

Lots of wet wipes and nappy sacks. Lol.

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?

Trying to balance work and home. It’s difficult since I work from home, I try to spend as much time as possible with my kids during the day and work till late at night.

Three things you can’t live without?

Tablet, lip gloss and glasses.

What’s a normal day like for you?

Every day is a bit different in my house, it all depends what time the kids get up but I wake up at around 5am and sleep at midnight. A typical day in the Vijendranath household is filled with dirty diapers, tantrums and not forgetting that I get peed on by my son at least once a day. My day starts with a good cup of tea and a catch up session with my daughter. She always has interesting stories.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?

No… Maybe one day?

Words of wisdom?

Believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams. A support team is a must –I’m thankful for my husband.

Rebranding for You, Baby and I.

My daughter and I love creating art with play-doh.

Where did you grow up?

Durban

How did you come up with your blog name?

I didn’t, my husband did. You (the reader), Baby (my kids) and I. 😉 Many people don’t know that he is the genius behind the blog – he does the pictures, art work and maintains the website.

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?

Gosh, this one is difficult. Lol. My husband knows everything about me. I’m not a secretive person.

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you……..

Honestly I have no idea where to start. I’m a new person. Being a mom is amazing but also difficult. Motherhood gave me strength I never knew existed. Every day I’m learning something from my kids.

Mommy Behind The Blog | Mandy Lee Miller

This is the 2nd last one for the infamous SUPERbusyMOM2.0 series 🙂

What is your name?

Mandy Lee Miller

How do you identify yourself?

Mommy, wife, daughter sister, friend, writer, mommy blogger, editor in chief, brand consultant

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy?

One daughter named Charlotte Rose Miller (Charly), who is 22 months (2 in Feb)

Are you married/single?

Married to Brett for 3 years on 3 May which is our 10 year together anniversary as well.

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed?

Both haha. I am a work at home mom, who manages 5 businesses, and will be expanding on one and adding another in 2016.

When did you start blogging?

2013 when I found out I was pregnant

Why did you start blogging?

As a writer I wanted to document my pregnancy and share my journey with others to “normalise” the not-always-pleasant experience of pregnancy and becoming a parent.

Do you do any sponsored post?

Yes

Competitions?

Yes

What is your blog about?

It is about the journey of parenthood from the moment you find out you are pregnant, warts and all. The core is my journey, sharing my experiences, my struggles, my relationship with myself and my child; but I also explore other women’s experinces through various series, and enjoy sharing and supporting exceptional family lifestyle focused businesses, with a special focus on mom-owned businesses.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger?

Providing support and comfort to other parents by sharing stories that let them know that they are never alone in what they are experiencing. Being a part of a community of incredibly talented women and writers. Being able to reach thousands of people every month and know that I am having a positive influence in their lives.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?

An empty makeup bag (the makeup is all over the couch – ️thanks Charly), deoderant, a misty empty wallet, 4 pens, a notebook, 2 Huggies nappies, kids sunscreen, a silver plastic car, a Bratz doll and a dummy.

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?

One of the most difficult things in the world is when you have poured your heart into writing something and it doesn’t reach as many people as you had hoped. The purpose of my blog is to reach out to people, to have them feel less alone, and when I share a story that I feel could really make a difference for people and I just can’t seem to get it out there to those people I really struggle.

Three things you can’t live without?

My family, my phone and the Internet.

What’s a normal day like for you?

Long. Very very long. Charly wakes on average every 90 minutes throughout the night and starts out day around 6am. I start working around 7:30 on Tums 2 Tots Online, client work, emails, South African Sisterhood and Pregnant in Cape Town (PiCT). My mom arrives as backup around 8:30 and keeps C busy while I work til around 11:30 (with a few meltdowns and neeeeeeds mommy and sometimes just cuddle and kiss visits from C). At 11:30 I settle Charly for her nap and then work on my phone for an hour while my mom eats and breathes.

12:30 I eat and have a coffee, sometimes prep food for Charly. I go back to work around 1.

Deal with miss Cs wake up tears around 2:30 (she gets that response to waking from me).

Go back to work til 3:30 when my mom leaves. Spend about haf an hour chatting to and playing with Charly, then we snuggle up on the big bed with our Curious George movie, rice cakes and cold water and we watch that (while I work one handed on my phone, stopping to do the songs and dances at the appropriate times). Hubby gets home around 5 after running errands and cooks dinner while I spend time with Charly (or working depending on deadlines). We eat dinner as a family, Charly and I bath, family story time and Charly bedtime around 7:30. Once she is asleep, I head to our room and – you guessed it – work on my laptop while watching series with hubby until Cs first wakeup around 10:30/11. And the whole process starts over.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?

Hahahahahahahahaha. No idea what that is at all. I dot get to bath alone or sleep alone or go to the bathroom alone. I am occasionally alone in a room when I work, though never for very long. Every few months I get a massage because sleeping with a very active toddler does all kind of fun things to my neck and back.

Words of wisdom?

You won’t actually die from lack of sleep.

There is always ALWAYS somebody going through the same or very similar things as you are when you are a parent – you are not alone. You are a Supermommy!!

WRT blogging – we all struggle with numbers, we all feel like we aren’t good enough, we all consider stopping every other week. If you keep going back to the reason you started your blog in the first place, you will always be a success.

Goals for 2016?

Balance. Growth. Health. And possibly baby number 2.

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children?

Reading. I LOVE how much she loves books. I love that her vocabulary is on track to be bigger than mine. I love that she has such an amazing memory that she can “read” many of them herself, but that she also has such an incredible imagination that she can nake up her own stories when it suits her.

Where did you grow up?

Cape Town

How did you come up with your blog name?

I was pregnant – in Cape Town :,D I added “& ever after” when I relaunched in May and expanded it from just a personal diary to include the other facets.

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?

As a “too honest” blogger, I’m not actually sure there is anything that nobody knows about me… Maybe… I have dermographism, which essentially means you can write on my skin with your nail or pretty much anything and then read what you wrote. Lol. It’s incredibly rare affecting only about 4% of the population; and it’s not dangerous or contagious at all.

Basically my skin has an allergic reaction even without introducing an allergen. It is aggravated by stress and anxiety and the welts or writing disappear after about 10 minutes.

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you……..

It changed every single thing about me, every aspect of my being. It has made me more afraid than I have ever been; from the minute I found out I was pregnant, her life became bigger than mine and the fear of ever having her threatened, hurt or lost became a core part of who I am now. At the same time, I became braver than I have ever been; I would do anything to protect her or make her proud. That includes introducing huge change into my life which I had avoided at all costs until then – I resigned from a stressful position that I felt threatened my pregnancy, I started my own business, I started my blog, I have faced fears and hurts from my past to be better and stronger for her and I bought a magazine so that I could follow my passion and hopefully teach her to do the same.

PLEASE go over and show Mandy-Lee some MAJOR December LOVE 🙂

Mommy Behind The Blog | Charlotte Lesli Coetzee Nortje

What is your name?

Hi my name is Charlotte Lesli Coetzee Nortje. I have 2 surnames because my one daughter is Coetzee and my husband and other daughter is Nortje. I felt I needed to keep my old one when I got married so that my daughter and I still share a name, also she asked me not to change it.

IMG_1070576206369

How do you identify yourself?

I wear many hats as most moms do, so when it comes to identifying myself I use the following terms: Christian, wife, mother, dietitian, nurse, chef, event planner, financial manager, musician, reader, writer, personal assistant, home educator, blogger, personal shopper, PTA mom, dog lover, coffee addict and so much more.

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy?

I often tell people that I have 4 children. My husband, my daughters and dog. My first born is Amandalynn who just turned 9 in June, she is well mannered little lady most of the days but lately she has been stepping into the tween stage of life and her attitude and having an answer for everything is driving us crazy. My second child Lorelai was 5 in January and she is the wild child in the family. Constantly injuring one of her eyes by running into funny things and costing me money. My last child is a fur baby called Kayla she is about 5 months old and spoilt rotten.

?????????????

?????????????

Are you married/single?

I am married to an amazing man who loves his children more than he loves me most days.

20141229_004846

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed?

I am a little bit if both. I work half day as a personal assistant and I tend to say that my real job starts when I get home at 14:00 in the afternoons. I get to drive kids to and from extra-murals, attend school and church meetings while still trying to get dinner on the table by 18:30.

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging when I came back from maternity leave in 2010.

Why did you start blogging?

I scrapbooked every minute of her life, but at that stage I was still working fulltime, Hannes was working 2 jobs and the only time I had to capture their memories was at work. I started my first blogged and back in those days I was called Scaredmom. After a couple of years I started a new blog called The Stilettomum because I was no longer scared of being a mom and because I love stilettos.

Do you do any sponsored post?

I often do sponsored posts. Press releases has a separate page so the will never end up in the inbox of my readers, but with sponsored post I try and make it personal or at least give my honest opinion.

Competitions?

I haven’t had a competition on my blog in ages. But it is the best feeling in the world to be able to share with your followers.

What is your blog about?

My blog is about my life and everything my family gets up to and things that affect my life and my children’s lives. In a nutshell, it is Parenting, lifestyle with a bit of crazy and maintenance.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger?

Everything!!! The friends I have made IRL and online. My day is not complete if I did not read about someone’s family.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?

Do you really want the answer to this? Here goes: Old train tickets, ID, Siggies, Tissues, random slips, My mother’s new phone, Sweets, sweet wrappers, hat, scarf, water, jersey, various medications, Nicknaks open and closed, tampons, hard drive, water, pens, keys, hair bands, etc.. It is a big mess.

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?

Not to get caught up with what the other moms are doing. Being my own “blogger” and not trying to compete or compare myself to other mommy bloggers.

Three things you can’t live without?

Coffee

Chocolate

Coffee

What’s a normal day like for you?

A normal day for me is long.

06:05          I drop Hannes at the station and then I go back home.

06:10          Kids have porridge and we all get dressed for school. I clean up if Kayla decided waiting till morning to go pee would not work for her, make coffee and lunches, put the dog out and make sure she has food and water for the day.

06:50          (most days only by 07:20) We leave the house. I drop Amandalynn and Lorelai at school and then head to the station to catch my train.

08:00          My working day starts and I manage 3 Advocates days and lives.

13:08          Catch a train back home.

14:00          Collect Amandalynn from my Gran and drop her at school for Hockey practise.

14:10          Pick up Lorelai and go to the shop for anything I think we might need.

14:40          Get home, let the dog in, and clean up whatever doggy mess I might have missed in the morning. Have a cup of coffee and cigarette. Have the dog jump all over and on top of me. Unpack shopping, realise I do not have half of what we actually needed and make a mental list.

15:15          Collect Amandalynn at Hockey practise, go to the shop again and forget half the stuff we actually need. Make a mental note to make and actual note tomorrow.

16:00          Home again. Have another cup of coffee, check and help Amandalynn with homework while carrying my dog like a baby because she wants to be picked up (it’s like having another baby). Talk about their day and just sort of take time to relax with them.

17:00          Start with dinner and cleaning up around the house, do washing.

17:30          Collect either Tara or Liesel’ kids from cherche.

17:35          Feed the children I just picked up and then continue with dinner and cleaning while trying to keep kids outside.

17:45          Go back to school to collect the friends kids who I did not collect earlier. (this happens about once a week).

17:50          Get back home feed kids who were just collected and continue with previous task until their parents collect them, then I pause cleaning to have coffee with said parents.

18:30          Collect Hannes from station.

19:00          Eat dinner as a family.

19:20          While kids bath, I have more coffee (yes I am addicted) and sort out washing that I washed the afternoon or only start with washing. Get kids sorted for the next day and maybe do more cleaning.

20:30          Try and get kids into bed.

20:45          Have a shower, watch a movie and chill until sleep time.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?

I am lucky because I have loads of alone time. My husband and I both have this. My kids are older so it is much easier to have this now. We get to sleep in on a weekends, lounge outside while reading a book or having a braai with friends. My children are very independent so tell will not come and ask me stupid questions and about 2 years ago they stopped following me into the toilet.

Words of wisdom?

Add salt to everything… or rather more correctly take everything with a pinch or bucket of salt. Decide on what kind of parent you want to be and then try it. If it works for you great if it doesn’t, change it. I have changed the way I parent a couple of times over the last 9 years and now I think I have a way that works for me and my family.

Goals for 2016?

Move; Move; Have a baby; Move; Move; Buy another car.

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children?

Baking. We bake a lot in our house and the kids love it. I do not mind the mess, so when they are having fun and messing all over that it the time I enjoy the most.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up 10 metres away from where I live now. 4 years ago my parents built me a house on their property so I never had to move far.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Actually I did not come up with a name on my own, Coral-Leigh the Cupcakemummy helped me with it. I have a shoe addiction, I love platforms and in all colours and styles. I was and sometimes can be seen at kids parties or on farms in 6inch heals.

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?

I have a very open blog so there is not much or if anything that NO ONE else knows about me. I can promise you whatever I list here at least 3 of my friends will text me to let me know they knew this already. So what I think NO ONE knows about the fact that I am drawing a blank.

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you……..

It has changed my life completely. I love being a mother and I will never ever want to change a thing. If I could I would stop my children from ageing so that I can be a mom to little ones just a while longer.

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy? Two daughters. My eldest is five
(going on 15) and the youngest is almost three.

Are you married/single? Married, six years and counting, to my best friend.

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed? I teach preschool drama once a week, and have a couple of students I tutor in the evenings. I’ve recently started homeschooling the girls.

When did you start blogging? I started Wind in a Letterbox at the beginning of 2014.

Why did you start blogging? Mainly to stay sane and cope with sleep-deprivation and two children in nappies. I also wanted to encourage other moms.

Do you do any sponsored post? No, but I might if I think it’s a good fit for my blog.

Competitions? Only one so far.

What is your blog about? My faith and how that affects my marriage, my parenting and how I live my life. I also write about homeschooling and crafts.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger? I think the mommy blogging community is fantastic and generally very supportive of one another.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW? My purse, a tube of Labello, some cherry Zam-Buk, a flash drive, an empty sunglasses case, several old shopping lists, a pen, some loose change, tissues, a notebook, a pen, tampons, hand lotion, wet wipes, an empty Jelly Tots packet and a chocolate bar that I bought for my husband (and am trying very hard to resist eating before he gets home!).

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger? Finding the time to blog with two children.

Three things you can’t live without? My contact lenses. Lip balm. A bra.

What’s a normal day like for you? Wake up with “Mommy. Mommy! MOMMY!” before my alarm goes off. Make coffee for my husband, and breakfast for my youngest. Feed the girls. Try not to fall asleep. Make supper. Bath the girls, put them to bed, think about what work I should do. Ignore the work and spend time with Hubby, or read, or sleep early.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is? I get to shower without an audience these days, and sometimes I get to use the toilet by myself. Woohoo!

Words of wisdom? Have that last piece of chocolate. You only live once.

Goals for 2016? I haven’t thought that far ahead. 🙂

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children? We love to craft. Consequently, there’s a permanent sheen of glitter coating everything in our house.

Where did you grow up? Edenvale, Gauteng.

How did you come up with your blog name? I love the Beatles. My blog’s name comes from the song ‘Across the Universe’.

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you? Something NO ONE knows? That’s hard. Hmm. Okay. I don’t floss every day. (Don’t tell my dentist.)

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you…….. I’ve learned that I’m nowhere near as patient as I thought I was. I’ve learned how little I actually know about anything. I’ve learned how much love a heart can hold. I’ve learned sleep-deprivation will not actually kill you, though it might make you crazy.

The gorgeous Melanie & Family 🙂

Mommy Behind The Blog | Lindsay Thomas

What is your name?

Lindsay – Leigh Thomas

How do you identify yourself?

Wife, Mother, Business Owner (Love Made Me) and aspiring Mom Blogger

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy?

I have 2 boisterous boys, Daniyal (6) and Joshuah (2)

Are you married/single?

Married

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed?

I wish I was a WAHM but for now I’m a fulltime employed Mom in the Private Healthcare Industry and after 4pm I’m a WAHM.

When did you start blogging?

I wrote my first blog post in on 31 July 2014 on “Being a Mom of 2”

Why did you start blogging?

I blog to learn, I blog to connect, Lastly blog to share and heal

Do you do any sponsored post?

Yes I have done a few

Competitions?

Yip, everyone loves a competition and I enjoy sharing awesome goodies

I mean, who doesn’t LOVE to win something

What is your blog about?

I try and share the good, the tough and the fun side of life and parenting while trying to embrace my lumps, bumps and wonderful post baby body. Having kids has changed every aspect of my life, and changed my body in so many ways but I think I’m rocking my Mom rolls proudly.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger?

Its amazing how your support circle and knowledge base grows when you enter this world. I have met some awesome bloggers that I’ve been following for a few years which has been great. I’ve been fortunate enough to liaise with brands I personally support and recommend, and I’ve made a few new friends along the way.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?

Wet wipes, a sock, 3 Oatees, purse, lipstick, tissues and a mirror

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?

Time, or the lack thereof. Life just happens way too fast for me to cope with sometimes. I say I’m a aspiring Mom Blogger as I honestly don’t feel as though I’m “meeting the standards”. There’s a lot of pressure out there, with very competitive Mom bloggers, with brands and with followers. I don’t want to pop out posts just for the sake of having something there, but I do admire those Mom bloggers who are able to do this.

I want my posts to be appropriate to me, my life, where we’re at.  Unlike many other bloggers, I don’t have a background in PR / Journalism / Writing.

I’m me, and that’s all I can be. I speak to other Moms who are just like me.

Three things you can’t live without?

My Husband, my Boys and probably my family (I’m very family orientated, I need to have my Parents and Siblings and niece and nephew around me)

What’s a normal day like for you?

Alarm goes off at 4:55am and I get my day started, I get done for work, get the lunches and clothes ready and then I hit the road at 6:30am. I start my day job at 7:30am and end at 4pm. I work in the Property Management Department for a Private Healthcare Group. Then I rush off to collect the boys from school, get home, cook, clean, do washing, fit in some QT with the kids, do supper, bath and bed time. Once boys are down I start with orders which are pending on my side and inbetween this, spend QT with the Hubby. Eventually we roll into bed anywhere between 10 and 11pm.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?

Oh, the 20min shower I have in the morning. Does that count? Gone are the days where I get to go to the hairdresser and just sit and relax or have my nails done regularly or even go to the bathroom with the door closed.

Words of wisdom?

Be you!

Learn to love and embrace who you are and not who you think you should be.  You were beautifully and wonderfully made.

Goals for 2016?

Grow my little business

Get back into shape

Focus on my blog

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children?

This would definitely have to be any arts / crafts / DIY related anything. I love getting creative with them. Be it by painting, drawing or decorating cupcakes.

Where did you grow up?

Predominantly in Cape Town but our family were missionaries, so we travelled a bit throughout Cape Town, in Stilfontein, and later Uzbekhistan (yip you heard correct).

How did you come up with your blog name?

After having kids it sort of just happened

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?

I wish I was a ballerina

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you…

Where do I begin? Let me summarize, a few of the things which I have had to learn and accept which have made me a better Mom to my boys.

Raising a child, whether on your own or with your partner is always hard work, no matter your age, race, religious beliefs. We are all in this together, so learn to stand together and support those who need it. It really takes a village to raise a child. Embrace yours. Even Superman needed someone. I definitely rely on my support system. Being independent doesn’t mean you have to do it on your own. Some of the most awesome friends I have made was via a Pampers Mom chat group and 7 years later and we’re still going strong.

Time flies

One day you’re pregnant and the next you’re potty training. Don’t sweat the small stuff, live in the moment and enjoy the few minutes you have with your child. It took me a few years to accept this but now that I have, life has been better.

Patience

I’m not the most patient person in the world, but raising another human being definitely tests your patience levels. Learn to breath, say “This too shall pass” often and if all else fails, fake it till you learn it.

Having children takes a lot of sacrifice

You are no longer in control and that is fine. Accept that these little humans take your time, your energy, your money, your freedom, your privacy and your bed. Enjoy it, soon they won’t want to be around you (you know, its so uncool to like your parents). Just enjoy the journey, no matter how challenging the ride.

Craft obsessed, working mother, wife, small business owner and blogger

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy?

I have a two-year-old boy named Aidan and an angel baby named Logan

Are you married/single?

Married

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed?

I like to think I have the best of both worlds: I do newspaper design and layout Monday to Wednesday and I work from home making handmade kids accessories on Thursdays and Fridays for my business oh!boy kids accessories and creating for a gifting business I run with a friend called Gifts&Goodies

When did you start blogging?

I think it is five years now, but I only recently started “taking it seriously”

Why did you start blogging?

I was working as a journalist at the time and also blogged for the publication I was working for, I loved the blogging thing, but was not allowed to use my “own voice” so I started JustEllaBella as an outlet of sorts.

Do you do any sponsored post?

I do, when they come up and match my blog I definitely do them.

Competitions?

YES! My readers love them so I have been known to even buy/make my own prizes

What is your blog about?

It’s just a personal blog that touches on life experiences, crafts, with some posts on child loss

What do you love about being a mommy blogger?

The people my blog has introduced me to, especially on the SA mommy blogger network

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?

Hand sanitiser, wipes and busy bags (These quiet toys I make in cloth bags) and I’m willing to bet there are raisins in there for him to snack on too

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?

Not feeling “good enough” like why would people want to read what I have to say.

Also getting intimidated by all the other blogs out there, I have to keep reminding myself that I need to stick to my guns and do me.

Three things you can’t live without?

My phone

Hair clips

Sweet treats – sad as I’m insulin resistant

What’s a normal day like for you?

Mon-Wed… I get up at an ungodly hour, to shower and hand son over to my mom, in car to work by 6.15, get to work after  7 (my detective husband starts then and we live “out of town”) I then usually pull out the laptop and blog till the rest of the workforce arrives.

Back home hubby cooks (it’s his hobby and partially why I can’t lose weight) while I hang with lil one. After supper and some tv, I bath Aidy, then while I sort out packed lunches for three of us it’s dad and son time.

Thur-Fri… I drop son off at school myself then I either do some sewing for Oh!Boy or create for Gifts&Goodies (depending on orders). Pick up Aidy at 12 and juggle the day…I cook on these days…

I try to fit exercise in at least every second day.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?

That’s sadly what I get in the office before anyone else arrives, oh and on Saturday mornings I wake up extra early so the boys are still asleep and I can do and watch whatever I want

Words of wisdom?

Uhm…. Do you! Seriously life is not a competition and death comes quickly, no use chasing a trophy you don’t even want, so do what makes you happy, oh and smile at strangers it will either make their day or annoy them, either way, you win.

Goals for 2016?

This year I kind of redid my life, quit my job, started online studies, started a business, attempting exercise and healthy eating again… honestly think 2016 will be a year of settling in and just enjoying my little family

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children?

CRAFTING and BAKING!!! I have a two year old that goes into a craft store and says things like “we must buy these eyes and make monsters” or explains that you need to “tap the eggy to open”

Where did you grow up?

Uitenhage, Eastern Cape

How did you come up with your blog name?

I have a friend who calls me ella bella and since my blog doesn’t have a single focus I thought JustEllaBella

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?

I’m so open about myself I can’t think of anything except the fact that I never wanted to have a kid, the idea of pregnancy and having a human in my belly really freaked me  out.

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you……..

Well for one I can do most anything with one hand now hehehe

I also appreciate my time more because kids really grow so fast, you blink and you miss a lifetime

The beautiful Eleanor aka Ella and family 🙂

Mommy Behind The Blog | Maz

That’s what she is known as….seriously. I don’t know her by any other name 🙂

______________________________________________________________________________

What is your name? Mariza, but everyone knows me as Maz.

How do you identify yourself? Semi-human

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy? I have two gorgeous kids, Mikayla Rose is 4 and Knox is 8 months old.

Are you married/single? Happily married!

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed? Fulltime employed

When did you start blogging? September 2014

Why did you start blogging? I did an interview on being a mom with tattoos, and I just felt like I had so much more to say. It is also a form of therapy to me, and it was a lovely way to document my second pregnancy.

Do you do any sponsored post? Every now and then – I am very picky when it comes to brands that I am willing to work with.

Competitions? Yes, I love hosting competitions and do about one a week – it’s nice to give back to your readers.

What is your blog about? It is about embracing our differences, it is about parenting, real-life struggles, triumphs – so much. It is whatever I want it to be on any given day, to be honest.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger? The fact that my readers are so loyal, and they know exactly what I am going through. I love getting e-mails from moms who are either going through the same thing as me or who I have helped in some way. I like that it is not a bitchy community, but that we help each other and from friendships amongst each other.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW? In my handbag? Wet wipes (of course), make-up bag, wallet, a Squish fruit juicy bag, one of the rocks Mikayla picked up (it is magical), a couple of dummies, my iPhone and a spare charger, lip balm, sunscreen, sunglasses, a pen and notebook, a sewing kit with pins and spare button, mints, hand lotion and a gift from my cat – I literally just found a lizard tail in my bag… OMG.

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger? Not being taken seriously, I feel brands expect us to do everything for free? Also, finding a balance between spending time with my family, working and blogging. There is just not enough time!

Three things you can’t live without? Coffee, Family and Lists.

What’s a normal day like for you? I wake up at 5am, and if Knox is still asleep I slip away to go to gym or do some yoga in the living room. At about 6:15 Knox will wake up and I will give him his bottle – then hubby wakes up and cuddle with him while I have a shower. My husband will then wake my daughter up for school and make us breakfast while Knox watches me get ready or chills with his sister. We do the usual, have breakfast, pack school lunches, get everyone dressed, pack school bag, pack baby bag… at about 7:45am I load Knox and all of his stuff in my car and drop him off at his gran for the day while I go off to work. At work I start my day with more coffee, reading and responding to e-mails, having meetings, doing research, sketching, choosing and sourcing fabrics and trims, networking, etc. I finally get to go home at 5pm, and I will have my hubby and kids waiting for me there ♥. It is the best feeling to walk through those doors after a long day… I then give Knox his supper and my husband and I will take turns cooking. I spend time with the kids until supper is ready. We all eat together, after that I will run the kids’ bath. After their baths we read them a bedtime story and Mikayla goes to sleep. Knox stays up for a bit longer… We then pack the dishwasher, sort out the clothes and tidy up. Knox then has a bottle and he will fall asleep in my arms on the couch – hubby and I then watch our favourite series together – that is how we wind down. We then go off to sleep, hoping that the kids sleep through the night!!

Alone time? Do you even know what that is? Yeah, I don’t really get it when moms say they do not have time for themselves. Sure, it is not easy – but it is your responsibility to make time. It is not impossible… My idea of alone time is a long, hot bubble bath with candles and a good book after the kids have gone to bed ♥

Words of wisdom? With every rainfall comes a brighter day.

Goals for 2016? To go on more family adventures!

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children? I love taking Mikayla on mommy & daughter dates, and I love lying on the couch with Knox sleeping on my chest. I love cuddling with them, having movie nights, having picnics in the sun… so many happy and wonderful moments.

Where did you grow up? On a farm near a small town called Upington.

How did you come up with your blog name? My favourite thing (caffeine) and Mikayla’s (fairydust).

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you? My life is an open book! Um…. My natural hair colour is platinum blonde?

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you…….. It is impossible to put into words. Absolutely impossible…. What I can tell you is that it saved my life. That it made me a better person in more ways than you can ever image and it has filled my heart with love and joy. It has made me love my husband more, it has made me more afraid of the world, it has made me see the beauty in life and I finally see time for what it is.

Mommy Behind The Blog |Cindy Alfino

This is the VERY FIRST post in this new series…….Thanx to Cindy Alfino for being the first Mommy ; I had such a good laugh 🙂

_____________________________________________________________________________________

What is your name?  Cindy Alfino although I don’t seem to hear that nearly as much as I hear, “Mom! Mommy! Moooooom!”

How do you identify yourself?  I’m a mother, wife, daughter, sister, business owner, yoga novice, gym goer, series addict, reader, moth hater, Nik Nak lover and a soon to be Aunty.

How many kids do you have? Ages? Girl? Boy?  I have three kids – two girls and a boy.  Kyla is 6 years old (Kyla’s Birth Story), Riya-Ray is 5 years old (Riya -Ray’s Birth Story)  (there’s only a year and two week gap between them) and Knox is about to turn 3 in September (we share a birthday).  (Knox’s Birth Story)

Are you married/single?  I met Seth way back when I was 16 (How They Met), we dated for a couple of years and got married when I was 20(How They Got Married).  Despite the odds, we’re still going strong 8 years and 3 kids later.

Stay at home mom or fulltime employed?  I’ve managed to hit the sweet spot by doing a bit of both.  I work from around 8.30 (after I’ve dropped them off at school) and come home around 2pm most days to be able to cart them to ballet or playdates and do homework.

When did you start blogging?  Back in 2010.  But really only started taking it “seriously” in around 2013.

Why did you start blogging?  After I had my first baby and then shockingly my second baby so shortly thereafter I felt so alone.  None of my friends had kids and I just felt like no one knew what I was going through.  So I started writing to reach out to others that may also be in that position.  Since then it’s evolved a lot, but in essence, that’s still what I want to do – connect to other women, especially other moms to let them know they are not alone in this muddy world of parenting.

Do you do any sponsored posts?  I do the occasional sponsored post when I feel like my readers would actually want to read about it.  No matter what it is, I really try very hard to still make it personal and worth reading, even if you’re not interested in the specific topic of the post.

Competitions?  We do a fair amount of giveaways.  Through the blog I have been able to experience many things, and it brings me such joy to pass those experiences on to my readers too.

What is your blog about?   At the root of it you will always find an undercurrent of “parenting” to my blog and content.  But we’re about more than just explosive nappies and burp cloths.  We have many interests as a family and you will find many of them popping up on the blog.  This includes kids fashion, travelling in and around South Africa, tattoos, what it’s like being in a mixed race family, kids crafts, themed parties and real life, honest posts about being a mother.

What do you love about being a mommy blogger?  There is so much to love.  I think the main thing, besides having a record of our life to look back on, is that I get to connect with other moms.  Hearing from other moms about how my words have helped them through something is something that makes it all worth it.

As a mother, what is in your bag, like RIGHT NOW?  We’d probably have better luck with what’s NOT in my bag.  OK, here goes.  My wallet, my ID book, about 5 different lip products – no wait, after counting there is 10 different lip products, a pack of Strepsils, a business card holder, hand cream, a bottle of my concealer that I need to go to Mac to replace, eye drops, 3 pens, 4 glittery kids bracelets, 2 acorns, 5 Stickees, 6 hair ties – all broken, a pack of mints that managed to open and disperse themselves all over the bottom of my bag, a kids badge, 10 mints, a stray red ribbon and a handful of unidentifiable crap.  I think I need to clean out my bag.

What are the struggles you face with being a mommy blogger?  There aren’t many really.  I guess the main thing is protecting our privacy by making sure we don’t give out any information about the kids school, where we live etc.  And sharing too much that my kids will hate me for when they’re older.

Three things you can’t live without?  Um, make up (specifically foundation, bronzer, mascara and eye brow pencil), my phone (it has everything in it – including the diary for all 5 of us) and Nik Naks.

What’s a normal day like for you?  It starts with me wishing that I could sleep in a bit longer, followed by pushing it till the very last second to get out of bed.  Then there’s a mad rush to get the kids dressed, fed, brushed and ready for school.  The school run and then traffic on the way to work.  Working.  Leaving in a rush to get to my kids on time.  Taking them home.  Referring a hundred fights, making supper, doing homework, eating supper, bathing kids, putting them to sleep and then Seth and I finally relax on the couch and watch series.

Alone time? Do you even know what that is?  Driving in the car to and from work alone, counts as me time right?  For a very long I didn’t know what that was, and when I did, I felt guilty for having it.  But now I realise how important it is and while it’s not very often, I do value that little gap.

Words of wisdom?  Gosh. Uh, I’m not very good with advice.  I guess the rule I stick by is not to sweat the small stuff.  No use getting upset that they weren’t in bed and sleeping at exactly 7.15pm or freaking out about a messy room etc.  Kids are kids and you’ll drive yourself freaking nuts if you don’t accept that.

Goals for 2016?  Keep producing relatable content.  If that means we gain more readers that’s great!

What’s your favourite activity to do with your child/children?  We enjoy a pizza and movie night when we can (usually Friday nights), but I really enjoy watching them learn new things.  So going with them to see their very first movie, or the suspense of a theatre production, or walking around a new town, or trying new flavours of ice cream.  That kind of thing.

Where did you grow up?  Cape Town – born and bred.  In fact, barring a short hockey tour to Namibia and a honeymoon in Durban, I’ve never been anywhere else.

How did you come up with your blog name?  It’s one of the hardest things to do and we were stuck for a long time.  Originally it was 3 girls, 2 dogs and 1 guy, but then we had Knox and changed it.  We went with the literal, because it kind of sums up exactly what it’s all about.

Tell us something that NO ONE else knows about you?  I’m not sure that there’s anything that NO ONE knows – I tell just about everything.  But one time (shortly after I got my drivers license) I was pulling out of a parking bay in reverse.  Now usually, you wait till you’re basically all the way out before you start turning the steering wheel to point the car in the direction to be able to drive.  Not me.  I was still so nervous every time that I drove that I started turning the wheel like half way out the parking bay.  Obviously this meant that the front of my car turned into the bakkie next to me.  Undeterred I kept going, which resulted in the bakkie actually lifting up a bit.  At that point I realised that maybe I was being a chop and should probably go and hand in my drivers license at the nearest traffic office.  The good news is that I managed to get out of the parking spot eventually – been scared of parking ever since haha.

And lastly, tell us how becoming a mother has changed you……..  How hasn’t it changed me?  Seriously, it’s changed the way I think, what I do, how I act.  It’s quite something having to be someones role model and having someone to love even more than yourself.
